TUSCALOOSA – New University of Alabama Head Women’s Basketball coach Stephany Smith will be officially introduced at a press conference scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday (Apr. 13) in the Naylor Stone Media Suite in the UA Athletic Administration and Football Building.
Smith, who takes over the position left open by the retirement of legendary coach Rick Moody, will become just the seventh all-time head coach of the Crimson Tide program. She joins the Alabama staff following a 12-year coaching tenure at Middle Tennessee State University including the last eight as the head coach for the Lady Raiders.
In her career at MTSU, Smith has guided the Lady Raiders to a 153-88 overall record with five postseason appearances including three trips to the NCAA Tournament. Smith had led the Lady Raiders to opening round upsets over No. 12 North Carolina (2004) and North Carolina State (2005) in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments.
In addition to her coaching experience at MTSU, Smith also served four seasons as an assistant coach with the UAB women’s basketball program (1989-93).
