The Alabama tennis team will go on the road this weekend for a pair of SEC matches against Vanderbilt and Kentucky.
The Tide (7-10, 0-6) has only played one of its first six conference matches on the road so far this season. However, it will have to get used to playing on the road as all five of its remaining conference matches will be away from Tuscaloosa.
Alabama is still searching for its first conference win. It’s already played the top six teams in the conference and head coach Billy Pate feels this is the point in his team’s schedule that they can make a move and pick up a few wins. Alabama’s five remaining SEC opponents have a combined record of 7-23 as opposed to the six teams the Tide has already played whose combined record is 29-7.
Vanderbilt (9-7, 1-5) has struggled about as much as Alabama this season and lost seven of its last nine matches. The Commodores lone SEC win came over South Carolina, 4-3. However, Vanderbilt has yet to play an SEC match at home this season and will begin a five match homestand Friday night against Alabama.
Kentucky (13-6, 3-3) is fifth in the SEC East entering this weekend but is riding a four-match winning streak. UK played four times last week, winning all four including a pair of 4-3 road wins at LSU and Arkansas.
Friday’s match in Nashville, Tenn. is set for a 5 p.m. start and Sunday’s match against Kentucky will begin at 1 p.m.
