Alabama Women’s Tennis Loses to No. 17 Florida
Alabama’s women’s tennis team was unable to grab a win in its final road match of the season on Sunday as No. 17 Florida shut-out the Tide, 7-0.
Florida dominated from the start, winning all three doubles matches and taking early leads in all but one singles match. Florida rolled to easy straight sets wins in five of the day’s six single’s matches and became the first team this season to hold the Tide (6-9, 1-5) without a single win.
The Gator’s Nina Suvak clinched the victory at No. 5 singles by defeating Alabama’s Natalie McElveen in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
At No. 1 singles, the Tide’s Robin Stephenson, ranked 7th, squared off against No. 12 Jennifer Magley. Stephenson and Magley spilt the first two sets and played a 10-point breaker to decide the match. Stephenson took an 8-4 lead but couldn’t hold on and fell 16-14 in the breaker to Magley.
Alabama is now 0-8 on the road this season, but will play its final six matches this season at home where it is 6-1. The Tide’s six-match home stand will begin next Friday night as it takes on Vanderbilt.
