Junior Beau Walker shattered the school record in the 60-meter hurdles on day one of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships being held in Fayetteville, Ark. this week at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Walker ran a career best 8.05 to take fourth place, earning All-American honors in the process and chipping in five points toward the Tide’s team total. She bettered the 2000 school record of 8.11 set by Ne-Juan Bakewell. She came into the championships with an 8.16 lifetime best, which she bettered to 8.13 in today’s prelims before shattering the mark in finals.
Junior Beth Mallory took 13th in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet and .75 inches. She will compete in the weight throw on Saturday while junior LaTasha Pharr will compete in the triple jump.
Boosted by Walker’s points, Alabama is currently in 22nd place going into the second and final day of the championships.
