Tide's Walker Wins SEC 60m Hurdles Championship

Alabama’s Beau Walker won the 60-meter hurdles on the final day of the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held in the Tyson Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Walker ran a personal best 8.16 to win the race, moving her to third all-time for the Crimson Tide. She shaved .04 from her previous best set in yesterday’s preliminaries. The Aurora, Co. native is the first Tide athlete to win the SEC 60m hurdles crown.
Alabama closed out the championships in eighth place with 36 points, up from last year’s ninth place finish. Tennessee won the 2005 SEC Indoor Championship with 135.50 points, followed by host Arkansas’ 120 point second place effort.
Junior LaTasha Pharr took second in the triple jump, just inches behind Auburn’s Jovanee Jarrett, with a jump of 42 feet and 4.25 inches. Pharr was also second in the triple jump at last year’s SEC Outdoor Championships. She also took seventh in the in the 60m hurdles with a season best 8.41.
Junior Beth Mallory broke her own school record in the weight throw, set earlier this year, but more than two feet on the way to fifth place in the weight throw. Mallory posted a throw of 67-00.50, more than three feet better than anyone else in Tide history. She was also fifth in the shot put yesterday.
Junior Tahesia Harrigan scored in the 60m dash, taking sixth with a season best time of 7.37. Harrigan and Walker combined with senior Christy Fairley and junior Kou Luogon to take seventh in the 4x400m relay, posting a season best time of 3:40.30.
The distance medley relay of sophomore Elizabeth Wancowicz, junior Majik Reed, senior Virnetta Greene and sophomore Julia Hicks combined to finish eighth, finishing with a time of 11:59.44.
