Tide Men's Track Heads to SEC Indoor Championships

After six weeks of competition and preparation, the postseason has finally arrived for the Crimson Tide as the team heads to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.
The Tide will be led by junior Peter Etoot who will be looking to win his third straight 800m championship. Etoot has already recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:49.37 in the event.
Senior high jumper Gabe Warren will also be looking to make some noise for the Tide as he too has posted a provisional qualifying mark. Warren’s jump of 7’01.50” currently ranks as the third highest jump in the conference this season.
Alabama will be looking for points out of Keith Baker as well in the heptathlon. Baker’s score of 5,265 points earlier in the season is the second best score in the SEC as well as an NCAA qualifying mark.
Also posting Top 10 SEC marks this season for Alabama are: Chauncey Harris in the 60m (6th, 6.76) and the 200m (9th, 21.30), August Maiyo in the 3k (6th, 8:12.00) and 5k (6th, 14:17.88), Alex Korir in the 5k (10th, 14:22.02), Alex Straughn in the triple jump (9th, 46’08.75”), Warren in the triple jump (10th, 46’03.25”), Brandon Schneider in the pole vault (10th, 15’10.00”), Matt Vogtner in the heptathlon (10th, 3,843) and the Tide’s distance medley relay team (8th, 10:00.62).
The meet will get underway Friday at 4:00 p.m. with the men’s 60m portion of the heptathlon. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday at 4:15 p.m.
