ALABAMA TRAVELS TO UAB
Riding a four-game winning streak and its first national ranking in nearly one year, the University of Alabama baseball team plays its fifth road game of the 2005 season as they travel to Birmingham to the face the UAB Blazers in a 6 p.m. game at Young Memorial Field on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The Crimson Tide (5-2), fresh off a three-game sweep this past weekend against UNC Asheville, is ranked 33rd in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Top 35 poll. It is Alabama's first ranking in the NCBWA poll since Mar. 23, 2004. Alabama was ranked only three times last season, including Mar. 1 (31st), Mar. 16 (29th) and Mar. 23 (32nd) by the baseball writers. The Crimson Tide opened the 2005 season with four games at the University of Hawai'i. The UAB game marks the fifth road game in eight games this season for the Crimson Tide. Alabama has not played this many actual road games to open a season since 1986, when the Tide also played five of its first eight games on the road. The Crimson Tide and Blazers are playing the first of two games this season. The teams are also scheduled to meet one another on May 4 in Tuscaloosa. Tonight's Alabama-UAB is the earliest meeting between the two schools since playing in the second game of the 1991 season.
MAGIC CITY RECORD
