Crimson Tide senior catcher Ashley Courtney has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Courtney ran rampant in the Crimson Classic where she posted a .500 batting average (8-16) with six runs scored, eight RBI, three triples, a home run, three walks and three stolen bases. She totaled a slugging percentage of 1.063 and an on-base percentage of .579.
“Ashley really set the tone for the entire tournament on the first day,” said head coach Patrick Murphy. “She was making solid contact the whole weekend and is extremely deserving of this honor.”
On the first day of action, Courtney was 6-7 with six RBI, four runs scored, two triples, a home run and two stolen bases, totaling 13 bases and a 1.857 slugging percentage. Her triple against Penn State in the semifinals scored two runs and proved to be the game-winner.
The award for Courtney is the third of her career and her first of the season. It marks the second such honor for Alabama this season and second in two weeks. Stephanie VanBrakle was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week on February 14.
