Crimson Tide junior pitcher Stephanie VanBrakle has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office today.
VanBrakle recorded a 2-0 record with a save last week including a 2-0 shutout over 12th ranked Oklahoma in the Houston Hilton Invitational. She also threw a season high 13 strikeouts in leading Bama to a 5-2 win over Houston.
VanBrakle didn’t just contribute with her arm though as she hit a game-winning two-run home run over the Sooners as well as recording a solo home run against the Cougars.
So far this season, she has amassed 50 strikeouts while issuing only five walks for a 10:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
The award is the first for the Crimson Tide this season and the third of VanBrakle’s career. She was named Pitcher/Player of the Week last season twice.
