I woke up this morning refreshed and ready to start the day. Mary Beth and I headed down to breakfast at 10:00 (yeah, the team got to sleep in today) to meet the rest of our group for some “really fluffy pancakes” as Erich called them.
After breakfast we watched some film of Ohio before getting on the bus to head out to practice. We only had 90 minutes of practice time so we got started early warming up. Our practice was what Coach Green liked to call “tactical.” We took time to get some passing and hitting reps before moving onto 6 vs. 6. Christie definitely made us work on defense, hitting some great shots on the outside.
After practice we went back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Everyone hustled to get to their rooms??we only had two hours to get ready...you know how girls are and we have 14 of them! We left the hotel and headed to Champp’s for dinner, taking tons of pictures along the way (yeah, we love to take pictures).
Dinner was filled with lots of laughter and even some random singing (yeah Megan). Jesper, our strength coach, definitely kept our end of the table entertained with his endless supply of funny comments. After dinner, half of our team went back to the hotel while the rest of us headed to the movie theater. Megan, Amy and I saw “Rent” (very good as long as you haven’t seen it live). It left us singing songs for quite awhile.
Now our day is coming to an end. Mary Beth and I are back in our room winding down with some Gatorade and music. After a day of practice, tons of food (sometimes it seems like all we do is eat), and some light snow flurries we’re ready for some sleep and for Friday to finally be here!!
Roll Tide,
Abbi Blackburn
P.S. I wrote this poem for our team at the beginning of our season and I think it still holds true today:
Coach Green gets us started with quotes for inspiration.
Chris keeps us going with yells for hydration.
Erich keeps our defense and passing on key,
While Merideth keeps us healthy, well as healthy as we can be.
Kari is behind the scenes working the datavolley like a pro.
Jeremy holds the shovels while Sheree’ always lets us know
What it is each day that we have to get done.
The practice plan and “Thriller” make each practice much more fun.
“The ESPN’s” always pass the ball just right.
MB, Jess and Amy...they must pass in their sleep at night.
Jess just might do a turtle roll or two,
While MB and Amy dig balls ??til their faces turn blue.
“The Thugs” are always loud with Juice leading the way.
Bones seems to jump higher each and every day.
Killer hits the ball with a smile and much ease.
Limburger shows us why she is the thug of cheese.
The setters run around like banshees on parade,
A hut, a slide, an 8-ball...any set that can be made.
Binks has all the tools and sets perfect on command,
MUD is feisty and aggressive, perfecting her game plan.
“The Pin hitters” work on everything from passing to the block.
Christie gets us going with some energetic talk.
Sarah and Daisy hold it down on the outside pin.
Fet and Potsy play the opposite, pushing for the win.
Our goals are set and we know together is the only way,
We’ll reach those goals so from our plan we knew we will not stray.
It’s our fight, our heart and our determination that push us to play our best.
So it’s the Tide of 2005 that’s ready to take our test.
