The 12th Annual Beat Auburn Beat Hunger is already underway and will run through November 17, the Thursday before the Alabama vs. Auburn football game.
The goal this year is 100, 000 pounds, a huge increase from the 67,708 pounds that UA collected last year. UA students and the Tuscaloosa community are working hard to "can" Auburn University by donating non-perishable food items. Canned food, rice, beans and other non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the collection truck located in the Ferguson Center Plaza starting October 24 at kickoff through November 17 or at local campus and community drop off locations including the Community Service Center, Ferguson Center Information Desk, Tutweiler, Riverside, Reese Phifer, Rec Center, Aquatic Center, Russell Student Health Center, Morgan Hall and Bruno's. A scale in the Ferguson Center Plaza will also measure UA's success in reaching this goal over the next three weeks.
At the end of the competition the winner will be announced at the Iron Bowl on November 19. There are also five competitive categories for donations within the UA campus and Tuscaloosa community: Individuals, Fraternities and Sororities, Student Organizations, Residence Halls and the Community.
The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Fight is an annual service competition between the student bodies of The University of Alabama and Auburn University. The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Fight capitalizes on the rivalry that exists between the two institutions to include the state's citizens to help alleviate hunger. This year, donations will also benefit hurricane victims affected by Katrina.
Beat Auburn Beat Hunger is jointly sponsored by the Community Service Center and the West Alabama Food Bank.
