The Alabama volleyball team got out to a quick 2-0 lead but South Carolina was able to rally for a 3-2 win in the SEC regular season finale for both teams. The Crimson Tide fell to 21-8 overall on the season, 9-7 in SEC play. South Carolina improved to 12-14, 5-11 in the league.
"This was a tough loss for our team today, a really tough loss," Alabama head coach Judy Green said.
The Tide was able to withstand a USC rally to win the first game 30-26. Alabama controlled the second game, hitting .560 and rolling to a 30-15 win. The momentum changed in the third game as the Gamecocks were able to take a 30-25 win. South Carolina tied the match with a 30-21 win in the fourth. The fifth game was close throughout, but USC was able to seal the match with a 15-13 win.
"I felt like we came out and played aggressive in games one and two," Green said. "We stopped being as aggressive in game three and let a team back into the match that was basically playing for their seniors today. That's a lesson our team has been faced with a few times this season and my concern is that we aren't learning from that situation."
Sophomores Crystal Hudson and Bridget Fuentez led the way for Alabama. Hudson had a .500 hitting percentage and 16 kills. Fuentez had 19 kills for the Tide. Senior Kelley Potter had 14 kills in her last SEC game. Freshman Sarah Snider added a double double for UA with 13 kills and 16 digs.
South Carolina was led by Marija Milosevic's 18 kills and 10 digs. Shonda Cole had 15 kills for the Gamecocks. Nicole Miller had 10 kills and 10 digs.
