Alabama Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Tennessee

The Alabama volleyball team was swept 3-0 (30-22, 30-24, 30-25) by a hot hitting Tennessee squad Friday night in Knoxville. The loss dropped the Crimson Tide to 21-7 overall for the season, 9-6 in Southeastern Conference play. The Lady Vols improved to 18-7 overall, 12-3 in the SEC.
Tennessee was able to avenge their last loss, as Alabama was the last team to defeat UT by taking a 3-1 decision in Tuscaloosa on October 16. UT has won seven straight matches since the defeat.
The Tide was successful offensively, hitting the ball at a .306 clip, however Tennessee was even hotter, hitting a blistering .467. The Lady Vols also held a 45-37 advantage in digs.
"In system, we were even with Tennessee," Alabama head coach Judy Green said. "When were out of system, they were clearly the better team. We couldn't make the defensive adjustments on the court fast enough. We weren't very hungry tonight. We didn't have defensive intensity and that has got to change before Sunday."
Freshman Sarah Snider paced the Tide offense with 15 kills and a .357 hitting percentage. Sophomore Bridget Fuentez added 15 kills as well and senior Kelley Potter had 11 kills. Setter Brigitte Slack had the Tide's lone double-double on the night, finishing with 42 assists and 11 digs.
Tennessee was led by Amy Morris' 16 kills and .500 hitting percentage. Kelsey Fautsch and Sarah Blum added 12 and 11 kills respectively. The SEC's leading hitting, Kristen Andre hit .800 in the match for UT.
The first game was a close one with the Tide staying within three points up until the 21-18 mark. The Lady Vols pulled away however, going on a 9-4 run to end the game finished the game with a .600 hitting percentage to just .220 for the Tide.
Tennessee continued their hot hitting in to start game two, jumping out to a 13-4 lead. The Tide rallied back to within three points on three occasions with the last being at 25-22. However the Lady Vols prevailed, taking the game 30-24. Alabama managed to out hit UT .395 to .394 for the game.
Game three was a tight one until UT pulled away at the 15-14 mark with a 10-3 run. Alabama hit .311 for the game, but UT hit .429.
