By a vote of their teammates, Alabama volleyball players Bridget Fuentez and Megan Hudson have been elected permanent team captains.
“At the beginning of the season we started with leadership by committee and we hoped that we would have leaders emerge naturally,” Alabama head coach Judy Green said. “The confidence that the team has in Megan and Bridget is evident by the way the team voted.”
Fuentez, a native of Tomball, Texas has been a leader for Alabama all season long on the court. The outside hitter is averaging a team best 3.78 kills per game and ranks second on the squad with 2.94 digs per game. Fuentez also has a team best 11 double-doubles this season.
Hudson has had a career year as well. The St. Louis native has become a force for the Tide as a server but contributes in any capacity that she can, whether it is as a defensive specialists or a setter. Hudson set new career highs with 22 assists against Arkansas and 15 digs against Tennessee. She also had her first career double-double in the Tide’s come from behind victory over Mississippi State.
Off the court, the two sophomores have starred in the classroom as well. Fuentez has a 3.46 GPA in management while Hudson has a 3.23 GPA in public relations.
Even though Fuentez and Hudson are sophomores, Green is confident that they have the ability to be great leaders.
“These two have been the most consistent at being committed to doing the right things, by putting their team first,” Green said. “As a team we are looking for people who make good decisions, on and off the court, and Bridget and Megan have walked the walk. The potential of these two to be great leaders for this season and for future seasons is very bright.”
Fuentez and Hudson will lead their team into action Friday night in the CAVE against the No. 6 Florida Gators. First serve is set for 7:00.
