Alabama softball wrapped up its fall season Saturday with a pair of victories over Chipola Junior College and Jefferson State Community College at the UA Softball Complex.
The Tide powered past Chipola 12-0 in five innings in UA's first game. Alabama won their final game in with a run in the bottom of the 7th for a 3-2 win over Jeff State. Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy was pleased to see all of his players contribute in the Tide's four games this fall.
"This is the first time we've enjoyed the luxury of this much depth," Murphy said. "It's been fun watching this team develop. I was pleased to see all four of our pitchers have good outings in the fall."
Tide pitcher Blair Potter took the win over Chipola. The junior college transfer made her debut a successful one, scattering five hits over five innings and striking out four.
Juniors Mallory Benak and Mandy Burford led the Tide offense in the first game with near identical outings. Both had a double, triple, two RBI and scored twice.
Chrissy Owens picked up the win in the Tide's second game pitching in relief of Allison Moore. The Tide used its team speed to defeat Jeff State, setting up each of its three runs with a stolen base to get into scoring position.
"We added speed with our new class," Murphy said. "I think they'll be a lot of fun to watch. If the situation warrants, we'll run every time."
Saturday's games closed the Tide's fall season. Alabama opens up the 2006 season February 10-12 in the Bama Bash!
