TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama volleyball head coach Judy Green announced the signings of Lindsey Buteyn, Brooks Webster and Sarah Snider to national letters-of-intent to attend the University of Alabama and play for the Crimson Tide this fall.
The trio of prep standouts inked with the Tide during the NCAA’s early signing period in November. They will be joining a Bama program that has posted six consecutive winning seasons including a 21-9, SEC Western Division Co-Championship finish this past year.
“All in all this is a very solid recruiting class for us,” said Green. “Together, they bring great volleyball experience, athleticism, and an excitement for playing the game. More importantly, all three of them are also tremendous people that excel both on the court and in the classroom.”
Buteyn, a 6-1 middle blocker from Waupun, Wisc., was a two-year letterwinner for Waupun High School. A fourth-team All-State selection and two-time all-conference selection, Buteyn helped guide WHS to a State Championship and a PrepVolleyball.com national rank of eighth in 2003-04. A member of Club Breakout volleyball club, she participated in three straight Junior Olympic Championships with them including a ninth place national finish in 2003. Buteyn is also a letterwinning member of the Waupun basketball squad and a Division 2 sectional qualifier in the the 200m, 400m and 800m.
“Lindsey is a very gifted athlete with a strong work ethic,” noted Green. “I am impressed with her ability to attack first tempo behind the setter. She comes from a long line of champions at Waupun High. She is a proven winner, who will add much depth to our middle position.”
Webster, a 6-0 middle blocker from Baltimore, Md., lettered at the Institute of Notre Dame. The career leader in kills and blocks at I.N.D., she was chosen first team All-Metro and the Baltimore Sun City Player of the Year as a senior. Webster averaged 5.5 kills per game, 2.42 blocks per game and posted a .502 hitting percentage in guiding I.N.D. to a Conference Championship and a perfect 20-0 record. She is a member of the Wild Blue Attack club team and is also a letterwinning performer on I.N.D.’s basketball squad.
“Brooks is a raw, talented athlete at the very beginning of her volleyball career,” Green said. “She is an impressive jumper with extremely quick feet. I am counting the days until we can get her in the gym and start her training.”
Snider, a 5-11 outside hitter from Oswego, Ill., was a four-year volleyball letterwinner at Oswego High School. A three-time all-conference and all-tournament honoree, she garnered second-team All-State honors as a senior. She helped lead her club team, Club Fusion, to a ninth place Junior Nationals finish last year. She is also a two-year letterwinner for the OHS basketball squad.
“Sarah is one of the best all-around players in the Midwest,” added Green. “She is a great platform player that will bring even better ball control to our team. I like her high volleyball IQ, her athleticism and her tremendous passion for the game of volleyball.”
