The University of Alabama women’s tennis team (2-1) earned its second win of the season Sunday against Western Michigan with a 4-3 victory in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Unlike Saturday’s loss to Michigan, Alabama jumped out in front early on the Broncos, winning the doubles point and clinching the match by winning the first four points. The Tide’s Melissa Minor, playing at No. 4 singles, defeated Reedhina Parekah, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the win.
“Today was a much better performance for us,” said head coach Jenny Mainz. “We came out of the gates quicker and with more energy and better attitudes.”
Alabama’s Robin Stephenson and Ashley Bentley combined for three of Alabama’s wins on Sunday. Together in doubles, the nation’s No. 12 team defeated Malena Remynse and Maelynn Bernosky, 8-2. In singles, No. 8 Stephenson defeated Rattiys Hiranrat, 6-0, 6-1 and No. 75 Bentley defeated Malena Remynse, 6-0, 6-1.
Minor, who clinched that match for Alabama, also clinched the doubles point along with partner Natalie McElveen. The duo defeated Carrie Jeanmaire and Reedhina Parekah, 8-4.
