TUSCALOOSA - After a week off from competition, the University of Alabama women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Mississippi State in Coleman Coliseum.
The Crimson Tide, 11-7 overall and 2-3 in Southeastern Conference play, face the Lady Bulldogs looking to avenge an 84-77 loss in Starkville, Miss., earlier this month (Jan. 13). Alabama is coming off a disappointing loss at rival Auburn last Sunday. The MSU game marks the first of three straight home contests for UA, with Bama looking to continue their strong play at home where they own a 7-1 mark this year.
Mississippi State comes into Sunday's contest having dropped its last two games including a loss to their rival Ole Miss on Thursday night. MSU is 14-5 overall and 3-3 in SEC play. The Lady Bulldogs have posted a 1-3 record since defeating Alabama in the pairs first meeting. Senior All-American Tan White leads State and the SEC in scoring at 22.3 points per game.
Sunday's UA-MSU tilt is the 40th in the all-time series with Alabama owning a 31-8 edge in the previous contests. Mississippi State has enjoyed some recent success having posted wins in the last four meetings including wins in two of their last three visits to Tuscaloosa.
Due to inclement weather in the state of Georgia, the Alabama women's basketball game will be the first of two hoops contests in Coleman Coliseum on Sunday as the Tide men host the UGA Bulldogs at 7 p.m. in a game rescheduled from Saturday. The Alabama athletic ticket office will open at Noon.
Sports Talk 1420 AM along with New Rock 90.7 FM will carry the Tide-Lady Bulldog game on the radio and over the internet at www.rolltide.com. Live statistics are also available at www.rolltide.com.
Following Sunday's game with State, Alabama hosts No. 19 Georgia on Thursday at 7 p.m. then faces Florida next Sunday at 2 p.m. in a game being televised by COX Sports and the Alabama Cable Network (ACN).
