2006 (Freshman): He became the team’s backup quarterback midway through the season, taking over the spot in the seventh week before the Ole Miss game. He threw his first collegiate pass against Florida International. In the FIU game, he completed 6-of-11 for 45 yards and connected with Matt Caddell for his first career touchdown pass. He also played six snaps against Louisiana Monroe.
2005: Redshirted
Prep: His senior season, Jimmy threw for 2,615 yards, 37 touchdowns and had just 10 interceptions. He played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl for top high school where completed 7-of-13 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown pass as the West defeated the East, 35-3. As a junior, he passed Los Alamitos High School to a top ten national ranking by completing 155 of 265 passes for 2,246 yards and 20 touchdowns. His career numbers show over 4,800 yards passing, 57 touchdowns and just 20 interceptions.
Personal: Son of John and Anita Barnes. Has an older brother, Brian and an older sister, Karyn. His father was played quarterback and was a team captain at Nevada-Reno. His brother played on the offensive line at Nevada-Reno. Born 2-5-87. He is a Business major.
