The University of Alabama men's track and field team opened its season at the Kentucky Invitational this weekend in Lexington, Kentucky and head coach Harvey Glance was pleased with what he saw, especially from his veteran athletes.
"All in all it was a very good meet, not a great meet, but a good meet," said Glance. "I thought the veterans performed very well. We were definitely better in our first meet this season than we were this time last year."
Glance saw three of his charges post personal bests. Seniors Lemual Clayborn and Keith Baker and freshman Michael Cooley all posted PRs in the 400m. Sophomore Steven Boozer got into the act posting a personal best in the 35 lb. weight throw.
Cooley posted a third place finish in the 400m with a time of 48.06, Clayborn a fifth place finish, crossing the finish line in 48.35 while Baker finished in a time of 50.47.
Boozer posted a mark of 54'04.50", finishing ninth in the event.
Not to be lost in the shuffle was Peter Etoot who continued his dominance in the 800m event, claiming a first place finish in a time of 1:51.21. Curtis McBride wasn't far behind, finishing fourth with a time of 1:53.30.
Chauncey Harris made it to the finals of the 200m and claimed sixth with a time of 21.38, only 15 hundredths of a second off an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
The Tide will be in action again next weekend in Johnson City, Tennessee at the Niswonger Invitational.
