Inside Tide Volleyball: Gettin' to Know Sophomore Katie Barker

Katie Barker is in her second season with the Alabama volleyball program. The 6-2 native of Garland, Texas plays the middle blocker position for the Crimson Tide. Last season she played in 29 games and started six matches. She finished the season with a 1.03 blocks per game average and had a season best 7 blocks against both Coastal Carolina and Northwestern. Off the court, Katie garnered Freshman Academic All-SEC accolades.
This weekend, Katie and her Bama teammates head back to her home state of Texas to play in the UTA Invitational in Arlington. The Tide will face tournament host UT-Arlington on Friday night before battling with Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday.
What’s your favorite thing about the University of Alabama?
“I love all the girls on the team. I really like the campus and I think it is very pretty. I just love it!”
What team do you most want to play and beat?
“Florida... definitely.”
What has been your biggest moment so far at Alabama?
“I’d probably saying playing against Georgia Tech last season. That was pretty awesome.”
What channel rules your TV?
“I like watching CMT and GMAC. Anything with country music on it.”
If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would it be?
“Probably... Fear Factor. Just to see what it is like”
What state have you never been to, but you’d really like to visit?
“Rhode Island. I don’t know why. I just think it would be cool”
What word or phrase do you overuse?
“My parent’s tell me I say ‘Like’ a lot. It’s just a word but I do use it a bunch.”
What nickname(s) do you go by?
“Barks”
Do you have a pre-match ritual and if so, what is it?
“I haven’t really done it much since I’ve come to Alabama, but I use to listen to ‘Space Jam’ before every match”

“When I was born I weighed 4 lbs, 12 oz., and was five weeks early”
