TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama volleyball team heads to Lexington, Ky., to continue Southeastern Conference competition facing the Kentucky Wildcats on Friday at 7 p.m. in the team's league road opener.
The Crimson Tide (10-1, 1-0 SEC) are coming off an impressive 3-0 sweep of rival Auburn on Wednesday night in the team's SEC opener. Alabama has won back-to-back matches following their first loss of the year last Saturday and are riding a five-match win streak over Kentucky. UK is 9-2 on the year with Friday's match marking their league debut.
"Kentucky has been playing extremely well so far this season," said UA head coach Judy Green. "Friday night should be a very competitive match. It will be another challenge for our team to see how we'll respond on the road in the SEC. It should be a great match for the fans."
Alabama's roster includes a pair of Kentucky natives with senior Julie Farley and junior Kelley Potter both hailing from Edgewood, Ky. Friday night's match will also be a reunion for players on both sides as UA's Abbi Blackburn and Erin Heffner played with UK's Leigh Marcum on the Munciana Club team.
Heffner, the reigning SEC Player of the Week and newly crowned all-time career kill leader at Alabama, looks to continue her All-American caliber play this weekend. She leads the SEC and ranks third in the nation in kills per game and with her 18 kills versus Auburn she climbed into a tie for sixth on the SEC career kill list needing just three more to move past Kentucky legend Molly Driesbach into fifth.

Following its match at Kentucky, Alabama will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule at Southern Mississippi on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
