Inside Tide Volleyball: Gettin' to Know Julie Farley

Julie Farley is in her fourth and final season of play for the Crimson Tide. A native of Edgewood, Ky., Julie has been one of the squad’s top middle blockers throughout her career. As a freshman, Julie expected to redshirt her first season but a freak injury to another player opened the door for her and she’s never looked back serving as a key contributor to Bama’s success the past three seasons. The 6-1 blocker has had a stellar start to her senior campaign earning All-Tournament honors at the Hampton Inn Bama Bash and she is currently climbing the career block assist chart at Alabama ranking third all-time. Her next block assist will be the 300th of her career and she also currently leads the SEC in hitting percentage at .423.
This week is a big one for Julie and her teammates as Alabama opens up SEC play against cross-state rival Auburn on Wednesday before heading to Julie’s home state of Kentucky to face the Wildcats on Friday night in Lexington.
What is your favorite thing about the University of Alabama?
“The weather and my teammates”
What is the most memorable moment of your career thus far?
“Umm...... (minutes later) Oh, duh. It would have to be my first start as a freshman because I expected to be redshirted but then had to be put in. It was a little nerve wracking”
What channel rules your TV?
“Definitely, MTV”
If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would it be and why?
“Real World on MTV because it is just so fun and entertaining”
What word or phrase do you overuse?
“I say Umm a lot and I also say Like”
What nickname(s) do you go by?
“J. Far and Big Red, I guess that’s it”
Do you have any pre-match superstitions and if so, what are they?
“We do the Bunny-Hop before every match... I have to wear the same ribbon every match and I put my shoes on the same way every time”
What will you miss the most when your career is over?
“Umm... my teammates and laughing with the team and coaches”
What CD is in your stereo right now?
“Probably one I burned myself with a bunch of random songs”
One thing most people don’t know about you is...
“I weighed 9lbs when I was born and I am double-jointed in her shoulders”
