BIRMINGHAM – University of Alabama senior Erin Heffner was named the Southeastern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week by the league office following another stellar stretch of matches that saw her average 5.69 kills, 2.50 digs and 0.94 blocks per game.
Heffner, a 6-0 outside hitter from Ft. Wayne, Ind., recorded double figure kills in all four of the Crimson Tide’s contests last week including three matches with more than 20. The All-American candidate also posted a pair of double-doubles, giving her six on the season and earned her third all-tournament honor of the year.
“There is no question that Erin has had a tremendous start to her senior season,” said UA head coach Judy Green. “She has been a big part of our early success both offensively and defensively. Erin worked very hard in the offseason to become a more complete player and this honor is a reflection of that hard work.”
Her strong all-around play has been a key factor in the Tide’s 9-1 start this year that also included a program best 8-0 beginning. In addition, Heffner surpassed Michelle Green as Alabama’s career leader in kills in UA’s match with Kent State on Saturday night.
This marks the third time in her career that Heffner has been honored by the conference office with this award.
Heffner and the rest of her Tide teammates look to continue their winning ways when they open SEC play this week with a home match against rival Auburn on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the CAVE. The match with the Tigers has been designated “Cram the CAVE” night, with Bama attempting to set a new single match attendance mark.
