Volleyball Set for Hampton Inn Bama Bash This Weekend

TUSCALOOSA - Following their impressive season-opening victory over Alabama A&M on Wednesday night, the University of Alabama volleyball team now turns its focus toward keeping the championship trophy in town when they host the Hampton Inn - Bama Bash on Friday and Saturday in the CAVE.
The Crimson Tide welcomes a highly competitive field to this year's Bama Bash featuring teams from some very strong volleyball conferences. Teams coming to Tuscaloosa this weekend include the College of Charleston, Montana State and Xavier.
"This is by far the strongest field we've put together for a home tournament," said UA head coach Judy Green. "All of the matches at this event should be highly competitive and very entertaining for the fans. It will be a good early test for all the teams and it is a chance for each program to see where they stack up right now."
All four teams posted winning records a season ago with the College of Charleston posting a field best 28-6 mark including a Southern Conference championship. Montana State, who beat the Tide last year in MSU's tournament, finished the year at 18-11 while Xavier posted a 16-15 record.
Bama Bash action starts at 10 a.m. with Xavier taking on Montana State. Alabama's first match of the event is slated for 12:30 p.m. versus the College of Charleston. MSU and Charleston open the night session at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Tide and Xavier in the day's final competition. On Saturday, Xavier faces Charleston at 11:00 a.m. and Bama meets Montana State at 1:30 p.m. to complete the round-robin format.
In addition to playing tournament hosts this weekend, the Alabama volleyball team will also take part in pre-game football festivities. The Tide volleyballers will be on the Quad signing autographs at the Mayfield Dairy Team Tent from 4:30-5:15 p.m. as part of "Kickoff on the Quad" activities for the Utah State game.
All matches of the Hampton Inn - Bama Bash will be played in the CAVE and feature free admission. Fans can also keep up with all the action on via live stats on the internet at http://www.rolltide.com/.
