TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama senior volleyball players Erin Heffner and Kory Tull were chosen permanent team captains for this season by a vote of their teammates.
The pair will both be serving their second seasons as team leaders after being selected team captains last year as juniors.
“Erin and Kory should be very honored to be selected by their peers to serve as team captains,” said ninth-year head coach Judy Green. “I think the team chose two people that they were most comfortable with going to with any issues that might arise. Obviously, this team has a great deal of confidence and trust in Kory and Erin and that trust is a key element to our success this year. I believe that both players are excellent choices to be team captains and that they will represent this team and program well.”
Heffner, an All-SEC standout and preseason All-American candidate, has been the driving offensive force for the Crimson Tide the past two seasons. She enters 2004 in range of becoming the program’s all-time leader in kills.
Tull, a two-time Academic All-SEC honoree, is one of the top back-row defensive players in the SEC and will be a key contributor in the Tide’s overall defensive improvement this year.
The UA captain’s duo along with the rest of the Crimson Tide will hit the court on Wednesday night in their season opener against Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. in the CAVE. The match marks the first competition of a busy week for Alabama, as the Tide will also host the College of Charleston, Montana State and Xavier in the Crimson Tide Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
