Senior goalkeeper Laura Lowman and fifth-year senior Rebecca Baker were name Alabama soccer team captains in a vote by their teammates Tuesday evening for the 2004 season.
For Baker, this is her second consecutive season to serve as team captain. Baker failed to see any action last season due to injury. This year, Baker is back and healthy and head coach Don Staley believes she embodies what a leader should be.
“I think Rebecca gained a lot of insight last year on the sideline into what we are looking for as coaches,” said Staley. “She has showed maturity and is a true warrior.”

Lowman was a unanimous choice by her teammates and ranks among Alabama’s all-time top goalkeepers. She is halfway to becoming the Tide’s all-time leader in shutouts and currently sits in third place with nine.
“As a staff, we knew Laura was highly qualified for this position,” said Staley, “and now that the team has thrown their support behind her we feel confident with that decision. This should give her a little extra motivation and I’m excited for her.”
