Former University of Alabama softball All-America Kelly Kretschman stepped to the plate in the sixth inning and did what she did so well as a collegian, she delivered a bomb over the right field fence to help secure a 5-0 victory over Australia and a spot in the gold medal game on Monday.
The home run was the first of her young Olympic career and she has now hit for the cycle in the tournament with a home run, a triple, three doubles and a single. Her three doubles has tied the record for doubles in an Olympic tournament.
Kretschman is now hitting .333 (6-14) with five RBI and four runs scored.
Team USA will now take on Australia again as the Aussies defeated Japan to grab the second berth in the gold medal game.
The game is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. CT and will be televised live on the USA Network.
