JAMESTOWN, N.Y. | Former University of Alabama pitcher Taylor Tankersley made his professional baseball debut on Friday night, working three perfect innings for the Jamestown (N.Y.) Jammers, the Florida Marlins' affiliate in the Class A New York-Penn League.
Tankersley, the Marlins' first-round draft choice in June, struck out five of the nine hitters he faced. Although Tankersley did not allow a base runner in his three innings of work, the Jammers eventually lost to the Vermont Expos, 3-2.
Tankersley signed with the Marlins on July 9th, after a lengthy contract negotiation.
