EDITOR'S NOTES: This is the second in a series of daily journals written by Crimson Tide volleyball players. The journals will give a first-hand account of their experiences as they prepare for the 2004 season, and give an inside look at Alabama Volleyball.

Today was the second day of preseason practicing but the first official double day practice. It really feels great to be in the gym with a group of girls that are willing to work hard and with a group of coaches that push us to improve as much as we can each day. Our journey for this season lies ahead and will be based upon how hard we want to work and our heart and desire to make it that far. And this team definitely has that potential.
Our morning session was based around a lot of defensive movements and footwork. We started without using a ball to make sure that we started in base position and got to where we needed to be quickly and efficiently. Later we added a ball and it was easier to dig because we were in the right spot and focused. We separated to work on blocking and serve receive passing and also worked on serving before we combined back together for team drills the rest of practice.
We had quite a break before our evening practice. It was really nice to sit and relax to regain our energy. We had a catered lunch from Jason's Deli which was really good, and I'm sure that next time we'll remember about the fruit dip. It's not mayo... really. Oh, and big shout out to the girls who had finals today in between sessions and this morning before practice. Whoo-hoo!!!
Our evening practice was very intense. We started off with a short warm-up that was both mentally and physically challenging before Jami led us in our stretching. I swear someday she'll have us all flexible and coordinated as our gymnastics team here! :) But practice was basically just getting a lot of passing repetitions and footwork since that will be one of our main goals to boost this year. We ended practice with a 5 on 5 challenge that was really intense. My chants for the day go out to Crystal (a.k.a JUICE) for a great pepper warm-up and all the dominating kills that she slammed today. Good thing you weren't playing against the BEAR!!!!! :) Lol...
Our season is off to a great start and I'm excited to see where we finish. Roll Tide!
