HOOVER, Ala. - Five members of the University of Alabama football team were named to the pre-season All-SEC football squad as voted on by the members of the media attending the Southeastern Conference Media Days this week at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover.
Senior offensive lineman Wesley Britt (6-8, 315, Cullman) and junior linebacker DeMeco Ryans (6-2, 230, Bessemer) were first-team pre-season All-SEC selections, while senior defensive tackle Anthony Bryant (6-3, 336, Newbern), junior linebacker Freddie Roach (6-2, 245, Killen) and junior defensive back Charlie Peprah (5-11, 193, Plano, Texas) were second-team pre-season All-SEC picks.
Britt, who has been tabbed to a number of preseason All-American and All-SEC squads, missed the last four games of the season after suffering a broken leg just six plays into the Tennessee game. He had surgery and spent the remainder of the season in rehab. Britt had surgery on Oct. 26 and was back on campus on Oct. 29 for a team photo opportunity during the Tide's open date week. He will likely miss spring practice, but should be 100 percent by fall drills. He had 561 plays on the season, including a high of 85 against Kentucky. He had 34 consecutive starts prior to his injury against Tennessee. Wesley graduated in December, 2003 with a degree in Marketing. He currently carries a 3.27 GPA and is enrolled in graduate school.

Ryans (126), Roman Harper (111) and Derrick Pope (105) combined for the first time in school history to have three players with 100 or more tackles in a season. He carries a 3.50 GPA and is majoring in Management. The Tide's leading tackler (126), DeMeco set the school single game record against Arkansas when he turned in 25 tackles. His 126 season tackles ranks second in the Tide record book behind the 134 tackles by Woodrow Lowe in 1973. He had five double-figure tackle games including Oklahoma (16), Arkansas (25), Southern Miss (13), Tennessee (13) and Auburn (10). He closed with 1.5 sacks for 11 yards (against Southern Miss) and 8.5 stops behind the line for 26 yards. He forced a fumble against Arkansas and recovered one against Tennessee.
A 13-game starter last year, Bryant had 44 tackles, 12 quarterback pressures and 1.5 stops behind the line. He played a total of 651 snaps and had his best game of the season against Ole Miss with five tackles. He also had two pass breakups. Bryant was in on a half stop behind the line against Tennessee and one against Auburn and also recorded a safety against the Tigers.

Peprah has now been a starter in 21 consecutive games. He needs just one interception return for a touchdown to tie the school record set by Antonio Langham (1990-93). He closed the season with four interceptions for a team-leading 93 yards in returns. He also had 69 tackles, three stops behind the line for five yards and a team-best 14 pass break-ups. He forced one fumble and recovered two. A starter in every game, he had 917 snaps and has now played 1,533 snaps in his two-year career. He had double-figure tackles against Georgia (10) and LSU (13) and had interceptions against South Florida (51 yards and TD), Arkansas (six yards), Mississippi State and LSU (36 yards). His 183 career return yards ranks 6th on that list.
In the Eastern Division, Georgia took 78 of 88 votes while Florida had 9 and South Carolina had one. In the Western Division, LSU had 71 of 88 while Auburn had 14, Ole Miss had two and Alabama had one.
