TUSCALOOSA –Former University of Alabama volleyball standout Erin Price recently returned from a two-week playing and mission tour in Costa Rica with Athletes-In-Action.
Price, a four-year starter for the Crimson Tide and one of the program’s all time top performers, extended her playing days for a brief period with this trip that included a variety of experiences.
“I was very thankful for this opportunity,” said Price. “I learned a great deal on this trip about myself and about my walk with God. I enjoyed playing some more volleyball, meeting new people, seeing different places and experiencing some once-in-a-lifetime moments.”
A native of Alpharetta, Ga., Price traveled to Chicago on June 13 to meet up with the other 11 members of her touring team. After a week of practice and team-building events, the group headed for San Jose, Costa Rica on June 19. San Jose served as the group’s base camp for their entire stay from June 19 to July 1.
In addition to playing matches against college and club teams that included several members of the Costa Rican national team, the group also had the opportunity to share their Christian faith with opponent’s and fans. The AIA group also hosted some one-day volleyball clinics for youth during their stay.
It wasn’t just all work on the trip, as Price and her teammates got to enjoy the beautiful sites of Costa Rica including side excursions to the beach, a volcano, a rainforest and the mountains.
“This was an awesome experience for Erin,” said UA head coach Judy Green. “Erin is a very special young person and her faith is a huge part of who she is. For her to have the opportunity to combine her passion for volleyball and for God in one trip was tremendous. I am so glad she got to take advantage of this exciting trip.”
Price, who graduated from Alabama last year and spent this past season working towards a master’s degree, is now looking forward to the next big step in her life – coaching – having accepted the position as a graduate assistant coach at Samford University working for former Tide associate head coach Michelle Durban.
