The 2004 Academic All-America Men’s University Division Track and Field first, second and third teams, as selected by CoSIDA, were released today and Crimson Tide senior pole-vaulter and javelin thrower Brian Rohrer was listed as a second team performer.
Rohrer, now a three-time Academic All-America, has etched his name in several record books for the Crimson Tide in the pole vault and javelin throw. Earlier this season, he recorded the seventh longest throw in school history in the javelin. He posted a mark of 168’08” at the University of South Florida Invitational.
“In the last seven years, we’ve had a lot of athletes receive postgraduate and academic awards,” said Alabama Head Coach Harvey Glance. “I always preach to them that their education comes first and being an athlete comes second. Brian did a wonderful job keeping both areas well balanced.”
The Vancouver, Washington native carried a 4.00 GPA in Biology and was a three-time Academic All-SEC performer. Earlier this season he was named as a finalist for the H. Boyd McWhorter Postgraduate Scholarship. As a finalist for the award, Rohrer received a $5,000 scholarship, made possible by funds provided by ALLTEL.
