TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama volleyball coach Judy Green announced the addition of transfer Jessica Yearout to the Crimson Tide roster for the 2004 season.
Yearout, a native of St. Maries, Idaho, comes to the Tide following a stellar two-year stint at the University of Idaho. A 5-7 libero/defensive specialist, Yearout lettered two seasons with the Vandals and leaves the school ranked 8th on the career dig list with 906.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Jessica to the Crimson Tide,” said Green. “Anytime you can add a player like Jessica with two years of playing experience in one of the nation’s top volleyball conferences, it is a big benefit to your program. She is a solid ball control passer that I feel can help us compete at a higher level. Jessica is excited about coming to Alabama and making a new start with our team.”
During her career at Idaho, Yearout led the team in digs in both her seasons. She posted the program’s highest single season dig total (478) and season digs per game average (4.47) last year for the Vandals. She leaves UI having recorded double-digit digs in 49 of 58 matches including a career-best 31 dig performance versus Cal Poly in 2003. Yearout helped guide the Vandals to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995 this past season.
A prep standout at St. Maries High School, Yearout was a three-time first-team All-State honoree. She was named Intermountain League MVP twice and nominated for induction to the Idaho Hall of Fame.
Yearout averaged 4.35 digs per game over the past two seasons, while Alabama’s dig leader Erin Heffner averaged just 2.34 per game over that same span. She will begin classes at UA this summer and looks to challenge for playing time as the Tide’s libero when the team opens fall practice in early August.
