
Alabama Softball Places Four on All-SEC Teams

The Southeastern Conference has announced that four athletes from the University of Alabama softball team have been named All-SEC performers.
Jackie McClain and Stephanie VanBrakle were both named 1st Team All-SEC while Staci Ramsey and Capper Reed were both named 2nd Team All-SEC performers.
McClain caps off a career in which she became only the second player in Alabama softball history to be named a four-time All-SEC performer.
For VanBrakle, it was her second time being named All-SEC while it was the first time each for Ramsey and Reed.
Alabama has now turned out 35 All-SEC performers in eight years including 21 first team performers.
Iyhia McMichael from Mississippi State was named the SEC Player of Year while freshman left-hander Monica Abbott of Tennessee was named the SEC Pitcher of the Year. Abbott also picked up the conference’s Freshman of the Year award while Tennessee co-head coaches Ralph and Karen Weekly were named the SEC’s Coaches of the Year.
A new honor given out this year was the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year award which was given to South Carolina’s Ashley Smith and Mississippi State’s Kate Jaspers.
The 2004 SEC Tournament kicks off on Thursday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. with the No. 2 seeded Tennessee Lady Vols and the No. 7 seed Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers will close out the first day of action with first pitch scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m.
