The University of Alabama baseball team will be featured on SEC-TV Weekly this Thursday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m. on FOX Sports Net South.
SEC-TV reporter Jenn Hildreth spotlights Alabama baseball players Zac Welch and Allen Rice. Respectively playing first and second base, the duo serves as the one-two punch for the Crimson Tide. Enjoying a good season (19-11, 3-6 in SEC), the Tide look to close friends Welch and Rice to lead them in the right direction and hopefully return to the College World Series. So far in the '04 season, both are making huge contributions for Alabama. Currently, Rice is batting .330 with 19 RBI and Welch is close behind batting .298 with 20 RBI.
In addition, Thursday's "Homefield Presented by BC Powder" is Alabama's Sewell-Thomas Stadium - home of Crimson Tide baseball. In its 56--year existence, "The Joe" has played host to 1,364 games. Keeping the Tide on a roll, Alabama has led the nation in home wins four times (1997 - 99, '02, `03). Also, in the last five years Alabama has ranked among the top 5 teams in the nation in average home attendance. Originally opening in 1948, "The Joe," as it is also called, has undergone many renovations; the most recent being a $4 million expansion project in 2001.
