While most students spent spring break at the beach or on various other vacations, the University of Alabama men’s track and field team was hard at work collecting NCAA Regional qualifying times and recording personal bests at the Stanford Invitational and the South Florida Invitational.
“All in all, we had a wonderful spring break,” said Alabama Head Coach Harvey Glance. “We continue to compete well at the national level and I’m really proud of this young team and the efforts they continue to put forth.”
The Crimson Tide distance runners took Palo Alto by storm led by All-American Peter Etoot in the 1,500m. Etoot posted an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 3:44.68 in the event while finishing seventh.
Todd Fayant finished ninth in the 3k Steeplechase with a personal best time of 8:58.87, the ninth fastest time in school history in the event.
Kevin McDonough also posted a personal best time, doing so in the 10k with a time of 30:35.78.
The Tide sprinters and field athletes traveled south to Tampa for the South Florida Invitational and it was much the same story, as the team won nine different events while posting various personal bests and Regional qualifying marks.
All-American Chauncey Harris won the 100m and 200m events while posting an NCAA Regional Qualifying and personal best time of 10.30 in the 100m.
Steven Boozer posted another NCAA Regional time in the discus with a throw of 184’04.00” which was the furthest in the field and the fifth longest in school history.
The Tide’s 4x100m relay team consisting of Harris, Lem Clayborn, Marcus Siwemuke, and Byron Gibson also came in first while posting an NCAA Regional Qualifying time of 40.63.
Also posting first place finishes for Alabama were Erroll Hickenbottom in the long jump and triple jump, Brian Rohrer in the javelin and Peter Etoot in the 1,500m. Bama’s 4x400m relay team of Clayborn, Curtis McBride, Etoot and Siwemuke also came in first.
