Clint Provost’s lists of accomplishments at the Capstone is long and esteemed, including such things as being named All-Southeastern Conference Second Team as a freshman, being an Academic All-Southeastern Conference award winner as a sophomore, and qualifying for the U.S. Amateur in 2001. In 2003, he had eight top 25 finishes, including finishing eighth at the Southeastern Conference Championships. This year, Clint has continued to add to his list, finishing eighth once again at the Southeastern Conference Championships, where shot a career low round five-under-par 65, the lowest league championship opening round score since 1988. As his junior season at the Capstone draws to a close, Clint tells about his dream dinner guest, his Auburn roots, and life outside of golf.
You recently finished eighth in the Southeastern Conference Championships. How does it feel to finish in the top ten for the second year in a row?
“It felt really good. It proves to me that my hard work has paid off.”
Earlier this year, you gave a tour of campus that was televised by the Golf Channel. What was that like?
“The tour was really fun. It was enjoyable to show the country what Bama has. It was challenging too, though, because we had to make up everything ourselves and we kept cutting and re-shooting. I think it took four and a half hours to shoot and it ended up only being two minutes long!”
Was the team’s win at your home tournament in March a special win?
“That was a great win for us. We haven’t had a home tournament win in a few years. We really played well then, not only individually, but as a team. It really helped to boost our confidence.”
What personal accomplishment from this year are you most proud of?
“Definitely my round of 65 at the SEC tournament. I knew I could do it and played a great round.”
What kind of things are you looking forward to during your senior season next year?
“Hopefully I’ll practice hard and get better. I think it will be a fun and enjoyable year. It will be great to meet the new guys, too. Hopefully we’ll have a great year and win a conference championship.”
You are from Pensacola, Florida. Did you grow up an Alabama fan?
“No! I was an Auburn fan until I decided to come here. Both of my parents graduated from Auburn, too. It was easy to change, though. I can say ‘Roll Tide’ easily now.”
When did you start playing golf?
“I was 7 or 8 when I started playing. I didn’t play too much then because I was playing other things like soccer. When I was 14, I quit playing other sports and really began to concentrate on golf.”
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
“Donald Trump! I think it would be cool to know how he got to where he is and his secret to how he got his fortune. Maybe I could talk him into letting me play on some of his golf courses, too!”
What do you like to do in your free time?
“I like to hunt and fish. I like to go to the beach, too.”
What course has been your favorite to play on?
“Pine Valley in New Jersey. That is my number one course!”
What is your favorite television show?
“Family Feud is a fun one because the people on there give ridiculous answers! I like to watch fishing sometimes too. And I like those shows on MTV – the Sunday Stew with Punk’d and Viva La Bam.”
What are your plans for the off season?
“I’ll be practicing a lot. I’ll probably have a full schedule playing in some tournaments and stuff.”
