After a weekend off from competition, the 13th ranked University of Alabama softball team heads north on I-20/59 to take on the Birmingham-Southern Panthers in a single game Tuesday evening.
The two teams squared off 12 days earlier in Tuscaloosa for the first time in the history of the two programs with Alabama coming away with an 8-3 victory.
Since then Alabama has gone 3-3 over its last six games winning a series (2-1) over then
#24 ranked South Carolina and dropping a series (1-2) against the 21st ranked Auburn Tigers.
Birmingham Southern has also posted a 3-3 record over its last six games splitting a double-header with Alabama A&M, dropping a double-header with Middle Tennessee St. and sweeping Belmont in a two-game set.
The Tide is led offensively by three-time All-America Jackie McClain, who is currently hitting at a .417 clip. Stephanie VanBrakle is the team leader in home runs with nine and RBI with 37.
VanBrakle is also a force to be dealt with in the circle, posting a team-high 185 strikeouts. Jennifer Wright is the team leader with a 1.86 ERA while Erin Wright leads the pitching staff with 13 wins.
First pitch between the Tide and the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and it will be Alabama’s final tune-up heading into its final SEC series of the season this weekend when the team hosts the Georgia Bulldogs in a three-game series.
