TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama volleyball junior Erin Heffner was chosen to participate as a member of the “USA Select Team” at the European Spring Cup 2004 tournament on May 5-16 in Brno of the Czech Republic.
Heffner, a first-team All-SEC and honorable mention All-America honoree last season, becomes the most recent Crimson Tide volleyball player to gain international playing experience during the off-season. Alabama has had several players in the past few years participate in international club competitions.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for Erin,” said UA head coach Judy Green. “She will get to play volleyball with some of the best players in the U.S. against some of the best competition in Europe. This experience is certainly one that will not only broaden her volleyball experience but also allow her to see and examine another part of the world. I feel like it is going to be one of the most memorable events in her life.”
The Bama standout and her new teammates will travel to the Czech Republic on May 5 and will enjoy three days of training and sighteeing in Prague before beginning official competition on May 9. The “USA Select Team” will play six or more matches against a selection of 11 European National Teams including squads from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Estonia and Finland.
