The seventh-ranked University of Alabama softball team (19-3) will step out of conference on Wednesday as they host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (12-1) in a single game.
Both teams come into the game on lengthy winning streaks, Alabama at 10 and Jacksonville State at nine.
"This will be a good non-conference game for us," said Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy. "We really respect Jana (McGinnis), Mark (Wisener) and Julie (Boland) and what they've done with this team."
Alabama owns a 6-0 all-time record against Jacksonville State, however the Tide needed a solo-home run from Stephanie VanBrakle last season to escape Jacksonville with a 1-0 lead to keep their perfect record against the Gamecocks in tact.
Bama has allowed only one run to JSU in their last five meetings (UA won 7-1 in the 2000 season) and has recorded four consecutive shutouts against the Gamecocks.
First-pitch between Alabama and Jacksonville State is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Fans can follow all the action at www.rolltide.com where national-award winner Jarrod Shadrick will call all the balls and strikes along with broadcast partner Chad Anderson. The broadcast will also air in Tuscaloosa on New Rock 90.7 FM, WVUA. Live stats will also be available at www.rolltide.com.
