The name of the meet in South Bend, Indiana this weekend is the “Last Chance Meet” and for the University of Alabama men’s track and field team, it is just that, a last chance to get more athletes in the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Peter Etoot has already qualified in the 800m, posting three automatic qualifying times, the fastest being a 1:46.91 at the SEC Championships in Lexington, Kentucky last weekend.
Keith Baker, Chauncey Harris and Alex Korir have all posted provisional times and will have to wait until next week to learn whether they will be attending the 2004 NCAA Championships or not.
Baker posted a school record 5,263 in the heptathlon, good enough for a provisional. Chauncey Harris ran the fourth fastest time in school history in the 200m, posting a time of 21.21 for his provisional. Alex Korir ran a personal best time of 14:14.65 in the 5k at the SEC Championships for his provisional.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. with the men’s weight throw and will conclude on Saturday with the 4x400m relay at approximately 3:30 p.m.
