ATLANTA – The University of Alabama volleyball team continued play in the spring scrimmage season with matches against the University of Tennessee and Georgia Tech last weekend in Atlanta.
The Crimson Tide faced UT twice and the Yellowjackets once in matches that included three games. The first two were played to 25 with the final game played to 15. All 10 current roster players participated in the event with senior Erin Price serving as the team’s setter for the event.
“Everybody showed signs of improvement this weekend,” said UA assistant coach Chris Redding. “Our outside hitters had some very solid matches while all three of our libero/defensive specialist candidates did some good things. Our middle blockers also got a great deal of work in the matches. Team back court defense has been a huge focus of our spring training and we set a goal of averaging 18 digs per game at the Georgia Tech Tournament. We reached this goal in four or our eight games. Our back court defense has taken a huge step forward. Hopefully we can use both the effort and the results to continue our improvement in that area for the fall season.”
Alabama concludes its spring tournament season this weekend in New Orleans, La., at the Tulane Spring Invitational. Bama will square off against host Tulane and Penn State on Saturday.
