Day Two of the Alabama Relays Concludes

Tuscaloosa, Ala. — Chris Martland, running unattached, captured the decathlon for the second consecutive year and Antisha Anderson of Ole Miss extended her day one lead to capture the women's heptathlon by 220 points as the second day of the Alabama relays wrapped up Friday at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.
Martland scored 6,858 points to better his score from a year ago (6,744) when he won the event representing Belmont. Anderson, who finished third in the event a year ago, scored 4,934 points, just 66 points shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Justin Adamson of Alabama finished eight in the decathlon. The Mobile native's day was highlighted with the second longest discus throw amongst the decathletes and the third longest javelin throw of the day.
The day concluded with Brittney Mensen of Samford University winning the women's 10,000 meter run. Rend Lake swept the top two spots in the men's 10,000 meter with Rey Alvarez taking top honors followed by Justin Kunz.
The action will pick up Saturday as twenty-seven different events are scheduled.
Alabama women's head track and field coach Sandy Fowler looks forward to Saturday being a momentum builder for her team.
"I think the main thing is that last year we won the relay section which is our goal again this year." Fowler said. "We want to come off of our individual events tomorrow so positive that we carry it over into the relays on Sunday. That is across the board, whether it is a field event or running event, because you need those kids to support you to go into Sunday."
Day three of the Alabama Relays begins at 8:00 a.m. Saturday with the men's hammer throw. The women will begin their day at 10:00 a.m. with the 5,000-meter run. The day is set to conclude at 5:15 p.m. with the running of the men's 400 meter dash.
