Alabama's Bassham Takes Second at NCAA Championships

Alabama senior diver Lane Bassham is the NCAA Champion Runnerup on the one-meter board on day one of the NCAA Swimming and Diving held on the Texas A&M this week.
It was Bassham's highest career finish at the NCAA Championships and the highest ever for an Alabama woman diver. Bassham finished just 1.35 points behind South Carolina's Allison Brennan, with a 305.85. In the process Bassham earned her seventh All-American honor. Bassham was first coming out of prelims with 308.40 points.
Sophomore Crystal Rasmussen also scored off the one-meter board, taking 11th with 268.20 points. The Odessa, Fla. native earned honorable mention All-American honors for her efforts.
Bassham's finish garnered 17 points while Rasmussen chipped in 6 points to put the Tide in 18th place with 23 points. Auburn and Georgia are currently first and second respectively in the team race. Both women will compete off the three-meter board Friday.
In swimming action, junior Arlene Semeco finished 23rd in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.50. Semeco returns to action Saturday in the 100m freestyle while sophomore Kathryn Hallquist competes in the 100 backstroke on Friday.
