MIAMI – The University of Alabama volleyball team returned to spring tournament action last weekend on the road at the University of Miami.
The Crimson Tide showed some marked improvement in several areas following a two-week break from competition. In a modified match set-up, Alabama took a pair of games from the Hurricanes in a five-game morning session (23-30, 30-24, 15-6, 14-16, 6-15). The two teams squared off for four games in the afternoon with Miami coming out on top (30-24, 15-10, 17-15, 15-8).
“It was a good challenge for us to play a team that is better than we are at ball control,” said UA head coach Judy Green. “Their ball control forced us to be more consistent with our ball handling. Overall, I felt like we definitely made some improvements defensively. We are using our spring season to work on fundamentals with many of our young kids. We continue to improve as a team, but there is still some work to do especially in the area of ball control if we want to reach the next level.”
Alabama continues its spring tournament season through the month of March with events scheduled at Georgia Tech (Mar. 20) and Tulane (Mar. 27). The Tide travels to Atlanta on Saturday for scrimmage matches against Georgia Tech and Tennessee.
