Etoot and Harris Earns All-American Status at NCAA Championships

The University of Alabama men's track and field team took two athletes to the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships and left with both athletes gaining All-American status.
Sophomore Peter Etoot posted a fifth-place finish in the 800m at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas to earn All-American status in the event and four points for the Crimson Tide men's track and field team.
Etoot's points were the lone points on the weekend for Alabama, but the Crimson Tide was well represented by Etoot and fellow sophomore Chauncey Harris.
Harris missed out on the 60m finals by thousandth's of a second posting a time of 6.72 in the event, however his ninth place overall finish earned him All-American status. Harris also missed out on the 200m finals posting a time of 21.21, 1.23 seconds out of the finals.
"It's been a wonderful indoor season all and we've been competitive all season," said Alabama Head Coach Harvey Glance. "This was a proud moment for Alabama track and field."
Etoot's and Harris's All-American performances were the first in their brief career and the 164th such honor for Glance.
The Southeastern Conference had the top three finishers in the meet, including the LSU Tigers who claimed the National Championship with 44.50 points. The Florida Gators and the Arkansas Razorbacks tied for second with 38 points.
Etoot, Harris and the rest of the Crimson Tide team will be in action next weekend in front of their home fans at the Alabama Relays. The meet is scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 18.
