TUSCALOOSA – The University of Alabama men’s golf team is back in action Monday and Tuesday competing in the Tulane Invitational. The tournament, which includes the first 36 holes (two rounds) on Monday, February 9 and the final 18 holes on Tuesday, February 10, will be played at English Turn and is hosted by Tulane University.
The field includes Alabama, UAB, New Orleans, Ole Miss, SMU, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Tulane, and Wake Forest.
Alabama is coming into the tournament fresh from its spring opener at the University of Florida on January 31st through February 1st where the Crimson Tide finished fifth of 15 teams.
“I was pleased with last weekend,” said Tide head coach Jay Seawell. “We hadn’t been doing well as we started out, and for the first time I saw in this team competitiveness, a sense of them realizing what they needed to do to compete at an SEC level. They could have tucked their tail after the first 18 holes but instead decided to compete. They decided to battle in that afternoon round and that is something I’m very proud of seeing. That’s what they need to do. We need good things to happen to gain some confidence, and we gained some confidence last week with those last two rounds.”
Alabama’s golf team is led by senior Lars Brovold. In six tournaments this season, 17 rounds, he has a stroke average of 70.94.
