Alabama men’s tennis (0-0) hosts a double-header in its regular season opener Saturday, facing Troy State (0-2) at 9 a.m. and Furman (0-1) at 3 p.m. at UA’s Hank Crisp Indoor Facility.
Alabama currently has a perfect 6-0 record versus Troy State in the series which began in 1996. Last season Alabama defeated the Trojans, 7-0. Furman will play UAB in Birmingham Friday before traveling to Tuscaloosa. Alabama last played the Paladins in 2002, a 4-3 Tide victory.
Alabama is currently ranked No. 18 by the ITA, up two spots from their preseason No. 20. The senior duo of Stephen Mitchell and Chris Gostek are ranked No. 13 nationally in doubles. Mitchell is ranked 63rd in singles.
There are eight Southeastern Conference teams in the Top 25 of the ITA national ranks, including four SEC squads ranked in the Top 10.
