Flamion Earns Spot in 200 Butterfly Championship Final

Alabama swimming and diving junior Chris Flamion shaved a second and a half off his career best 200 butterfly time this morning during prelims to qualify for tonight's championship finals at the Southeastern Conference Championships held on the Georgia campus this week.
Flamion, who posted a 1:47.87 to finish seventh in the prelims, wasn't the only Tide athlete to advance to tonight's finals. Sophomore JT Jones will compete in the consolation finals or the 200 butterfly and try to improve on his 1:47.87 from the morning session.
Senior James Willcox and freshman Igor Erhartic both qualified for the consolation finals of the 200 freestyle, touching at 1:38.63 and 1:38.65 respectively. Junior Franck Southon will swim the 200 backstroke again tonight, after posting a 1:48.06 in prelims.
Sophomore Kathryn Hallquist, who won the consolation final of the 100 backstroke on Wednesday, will try to duplicate that feat in the 200 backstroke tonight after posting a career best 2:01.83 in prelims. She is seeded second in the consolation final after finishing 10th overall this morning. Freshman Bridgett Belyea will swim the 200 butterfly again tonight after posting a 2:08.63 in prelims.
Finals for today's events get underway at 6:30 p.m. ET in Gabrielsen Natatorium.
